  3.   Since the 1S overcall shows as little as OPC 8,
  4. it is necessary for the defensive responder to
  5. define the supporting bid carefully.

  7.    The following bids show at least 3 card support
  8. 3NT(4S) RPC: 18 or more
  9. 2H      RPC: 15-17 (cue bid in opponent's suit)
  10. 3H      RPC: 12-14 (cue bid in opponent's suit)
  11. 3S      RPC: 8 or less, preemptive bid, less than 1 QT,
  12.       4 or more spades, not strong defensively.
  13.       Used if right hand opponent bids.
  14. 2S      RPC: 8-11

  16. Similar situation exists when the opener bids 1C or
  17. 1D, and when the first defensive player bids 1H
  18. rather than 1S.
